Creamy Honey Porridge – The Kind The Kids Can’t Resist!
Earlier this year I jumped at the chance to check out the very awesome Tefal Cuisine Companion ‘Thermo-cooking’ Machine. If you missed my write up on that great big adventure, then you can check it out here.
One of the very first meals I attempted in my Cuisine Companion was the Tefal Porridge recipe. While it was delicious, it certainly wasn’t in a quantity big enough to feed our large 8 member family, so I set about creating my own Porridge recipe that could feed an army on a budget in the blink of an eye!
Now, I will tell you guys before I share my recipe, that one of our MonsterSquad girls was adamant that she hated porridge and if she was to consume any at all, it would have to be those rather expensive honey sachet microwave packets that come in a box of 10. Sorry love, not in our budget but I’ll give it my best shot at recreating a smooth, creamy, honey flavoured porridge that you can enjoy…. hehehe.
And I must say, mission complete, a total success! She now eats the honey porridge with the rest of us.
So here it is:
BLADE: Mixing Blade.
PREPARATION TIME: 2 Minutes.
COOKING TIME: 12 Minutes.
4oog Quick Cooking Rolled Oats
700ml of water
800ml Skim (Light) Milk
2 Tablespoons of runny Honey
Place the 400g Quick Cooking Rolled Oats, 700ml of Water & 800ml of Skim (Light) Milk in the Cuisine Companion Bowl.
Cook at 90′ on Speed 6 for 10 minutes.
Add the 2 tablespoons of runny Honey to the bowl and cook for a further 2 minutes on speed 7 at temp 90′.
Serve in breakfast bowls and add extra milk or honey to suit taste.
To prepare this porridge I use plain-brand oats, milk and honey which costs me approximately $1.75au.
I serve 8 bowls up, meaning that each serving equates to just under $0.22c a serve.
This dish takes a total of 14 minutes to prepare, cook and serve, so to make mornings a little easier and to add a touch of motivation we make a game of it and I have the MonsterSquad (and sometimes myself too) ‘race’ the timer on the Cuisine Companion to get dressed and do their hair.
So far, so good, and they’re loving sitting down on these chilly mornings we’ve been having, with a nice warm bowl of healthy honey goodness. Yummo!
